Rights & Laws

Know what your animal’s designation actually gets you.

We’re plain about the law because pretending otherwise leads to customers being embarrassed at airports and leases. Summaries here link to the primary sources (HUD, DOT, DOJ/ADA.gov) so you can verify everything we say.

Non-negotiable disclaimer

  • Registration alone is optional ID — not legal status. No private registry grants federal rights.
  • Only a letter from a licensed mental-health professional carries legal weight for ESA or PSD accommodation.
  • ESAs no longer have airline cabin rights under the 2021 DOT final rule. Service dogs (including PSDs) still do.
  • ADA public-access rights apply only to service dogs — not emotional support animals.
