Airline Requirements for Emotional Support Animals

January 11, 2021 the Department of Transportation (DOT) passed a "final rule" regarding emotional support animals (ESA) for all major US-based commercial airlines. Unfortunately, at this time, they've decided that the airlines may no longer recognize them as a special class, eliminating ESA handler's rights for their emotional support animal to fly for free in the cabin of the aircraft.

However, this does not mean you cannot take your animal with you. The airlines simply recognize them as "pets" and to fly with your animal, you'll be required to pay their "pet fee" OR train your emotional support animal to become a psychiatric service dog. Find out how to qualify for a psychiatric service dog — HERE.
